The End of Borders

Borders closed up shop for good this week. One wonders how all those strip malls will make a go of it without a relatively nice anchor store such as Borders around. Can't see much replacing it but Dollar General's, perhaps. And the end of Borders may be the first stirrings of the next recession; there is still a vast amount of debt and unprofitable investment left to be liquidated in the advanced economies.

The Borders closest to me has a 25,000 sf former Circuit City empty and looming one block away.Been vacant for over two years. Nice part of town, close to the higher end malls and retail stores

To Anonymous-sounds like the Borders closest to me too :) Later on next year a Wal-Mart will be moving into the same (admittedly large) strip mall as our Borders store, which would have been unthinkable ten years ago in my well-heeled suburb. To be honest I wouldn't MIND a few more dollar stores in my area.
